Senator Peter Fitzgerald to Headline Woodford GOP
Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner February 16
United States Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald will be the keynote speaker at the annual Lincoln-Reagan Day dinner of the Woodford County Republican Central Committee on Saturday, February 16, at Snyder Village Center, 1200 E. Partridge, Metamora. Snyder Village is on the east edge of Metamora, on Illinois Route 116. Senator Fitzgerald will speak following the dinner. County, State, and regional office holders and candidates will also attend.
Senator Fitzgerald was elected to the United States Senate on November 3, 1998. He was the first Republican in Illinois to win a Senate race in 20 years, and the only Republican challenger in the country to defeat an incumbent Democratic Senator in the 1998 election cycle.
Fitzgerald is the youngest member of the U.S. Senate. He serves on the Agriculture, Energy, and Small Business committees. He is also chairman of the Agriculture subcommittee on Research, Nutrition, and General Legislation, a subcommittee with jurisdiction over health, welfare, and food safety issues, as well as over the commodities futures trading industry.
Candidates will be meeting voters at 6:00 p.m. and the dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Snyder Village Center. Parking is available at the rear of the complex. Tickets are now on sale for $17.50 per person and may be obtained from Woodford County Republican precinct committeemen and office holders. Tables of eight may be reserved in a party’s name for $200 per table. The Lincoln-Reagan Day dinner serves as a primary source of operating funds for the Central Committee and for the Eureka College Young Republicans.
Woodford County Republicans chose to honor President Ronald Reagan's contributions to the Nation and to Woodford County by adding his name to the annual dinner event. President Reagan attended Eureka College and was well known throughout the community in his early days. They are also encouraging other county Republican organizations to do the same.
