Woodford GOP to Open New Headquarters in Eureka
The Woodford County Republican Central Committee will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new headquarters in Eureka at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 26. The event is part of the Eureka-Reagan Days festival, which begins at 7:00 AM with a pancake breakfast on the Courthouse lawn.
The office is located at 106 South Main Street, the intersection of US Route 24 (Center Street) and Illinois Route 117, in sight of the Courthouse.
The building has a sentimental attachment for many Woodford Republicans, as it formerly housed the offices of Senator Bob Madigan, Senator Clyde Stone and Representative Keith P. Sommer. Their local legislative assistant, the late Quentin "Jim" Durst, was previously a long-time Sheriff and past chairman of the Republican Central Committee.
Chairman Bill Christ, of Metamora, held the August meeting of the Central Committee at the new facility. It was procured by a committee of James Cannon, Metamora Twp.; Bruce Kieffer, Cazenovia Twp.; Gerald Smith, Cruger Twp. and James Fyke, Olio Twp. The full Central Committee approved the plan and Cannon, Kieffer and Smith, with additional help from Tom Karr, Montgomery Twp.; and Tom Evans, Roanoke Twp.; and several local volunteers, set about repainting, installing lights and telephones and obtaining furniture.
Volunteers are being recruited to operate the office and to assist in getting out the vote for the November general election.
